Hey, we even got VIDEO CLIPS!!

........
........
Heading out from Burleigh Island Marina, we pass by where Burleigh Falls flows into Stoney Lake.

........
.......
Here's the house where they were filming 'Cheaper By The Dozen II'.
Pretty neato, eh?

........
.......
Continuing on through the beautiful and aptly named Stoney Lake.
If you ask me, I'd say they should have called it 'Watch Out For The Shoals Lake'.

........
.......
Oh sure, this guy looks all confident and happy heading this way.
Wait to see what he looks like on the way back!
Click HERE for a short video clip from this spot.

........
.......
Here's a challenging part of the lake called 'Hell's Gate'.
No problem - as long as the boat is kept IN BETWEEN the buoys.

........
.......
At the south end of Stoney, we head onto Clear Lake.
Couldn't have asked for a nicer day!!!
Click HERE for a short video clip from this spot.

........
.......
Our next stop - Young's Point.
Check the name of the boat beside us in this picture - 'Idi-Yacht'.
Travel time from Burleigh Falls: 1 Hour

........
.......
This is another beautiful spot to spend a day (or two, or three) - Islandview Resort.
The food at the Old Mill Restaurant is really good, too.

........
.......
A look down river, toward the lock & falls.
It's a calm spot to tie up, as all the traffic passes by here slowly.

........
.......
This old bridge from the 1880's is down by the lock. It's only used as a foot bridge now & to offer a nice backdrop to this photo :-)

........
.......
I know you are all dying to know the history of the bridge, so I've included a shot of the historical plaque that is beside it.

........
.......
This store - The Lockside Trading Company - is a really neat place to wander through (and maybe pick up a CD), look around at all the unique items they carry & grab an ice cream cone.
Not only that, but you can even have your picture taken with a PIG!
(But more on THAT later . . .)

........
.......
Another calm evening. Ahhhhhhhhh, summertime.

......
.......
Hey - it's an Anchor.
Girl.

........
.......
Ya, our holidays was such an exiting time that she had to settle down with some calming bird watching.
How sad is that????

........
.......
One more look out the back of our boat, facing eastward. . .
Clear Lake is just a bit ahead and to the left in this shot.

........
.......
Following day & off to our next port - a mere 8 locks away :-(
As you can see, the excitement has once again overtaken Anchor Girl and she has to take a breather on the deck before proceeding :-)

........
.......
Lake Katchewanooka!
And I'm not making that up . . .

........
.......
Just before Peterborough we passed by Trent University, situated right on the Otonabee River.
Remember - stay in school, kids!

........
.......
In the 'Bucket' @ Peterborough Liftlock - the highest liftlock in the world!

........
.......
This was as close as we got to the end of the lock chamber, as Anchor Girl was nervous about being right at the edge.
I guess she figured that if the thing gave way, the extra 1 or 2 seconds before we plummeted down 65 feet might have some beneficial effect.

........
.......
Coming into Little Lake & Peterborough Marina, with the landmark water fountain to guide us in.

........
.......
A sunny afternoon in the marina.
See the building in the background (with the pointy roof)?
That's where the next photo was taken from.
Travel time from Young's Point: 4 hrs, 30 min. Total time from Keswick: 19.5 hours.

........
.......
An overview of the marina. The larger building at the back right is the Holiday Inn . They offer free overnight mooring if you spend the night in one their rooms.
Click HERE for a short video clip from this spot.

........
.......
We took a walk over to the liftlock & someone had to stop at Tim's for an Ice Cap.

........
.......
Peterborough Liftlock - as seen from terra-firma.

........
.......
As usual, my wife took me to the wrong side of the tracks :-)
(This was the shortcut back)
Click HERE for a short video clip from this spot.

........
.......
73 miles later, we are back within view of the marina.

........
.......
One of the reasons we wanted to get to Peterborough was to see the concert at the park, located immediately beside the marina.
Every Wednesday & Saturday nights in the summer they have free concerts, followed by a fireworks show. This is all part of the Festival Of Lights, put on by the city of Peterborough.

........
.......
The cruise boats from Liftlock Cruise beach next to the park so the guests can watch the concert. When the show ends, they head out on to the lake to see the fire works.

........
.......
Image a big BOOM & crackling sounds!

........
.......
Looking out from the back of the boat, toward Little Lake.

........
.......
Heading off to Hastings.

........
.......
This is pretty much the view down the Otonabee River.

........
.......
An hour through the Otonabee and we're on Rice Lake .
This is the big marker at the end os the river - it's visible from quite far off, when returning.

........
.......
About halfway through Rice Lake sits the ruins of an old railway causeway that cuts right across the lake. It's location is clearly marked on the chart, as is the safe opening (roughly 300' wide).
Unfortunately for this guy, he was unaware of either, as this boat had run aground the old pilings.

........
.......
Another railway swing bridge.
This is on the Trent River, between Rice Lake & Hastings.

........
.......
Arrival at Hastings Village Marina.
It was really windy that day & had a hard time docking (story of my life).
That's why we were bow in . . .

......
.......
The office & washrooms were in this building. This place is only a couple of years old & therefore everything is new!
The washrooms are the best of anywhere we've been (yes, even Driftwood Cove).
These guys even have free high speed wireless internet & a computer that guests can use.
They even offers pump outs - right at your slip!
Travel time from Peterborough: 3 hrs, 30 min. Total time from Keswick: 23 Hours - 158 Miles.

......
.......
The dam next to the lock - looking back toward the marina.
There's not a whole heck of allot to do in Hastings, but the marina is a first class stopover when traveling that way.

......
.......
There is good food shopping as well as a beer & liquor store in town, but you are best to have a cart. It's a bit of a walk to these shops.

......
.......
Lock # 18 was the farthest east we got, this time around.

......
.......
The last night we were there it rained quite heavily. Thankfully, that was the worst weather we had on our whole three weeks away.

......
.......
It's times like this that you realize how fortunate you are to have a water tight canvass.
We weren't that fortunate.
If there was a possible place for water to come in - we had it.

......
.......
After the rain, we had another wonderful sunset.

If You Can Stomach It, On To Page 3  . . .
