Summer Holidays '04
July 24 - August 8, 2004
>>>> Page #1 of 2 <<<<

In 2004 we headed eastward through the system and got
as far as Burleigh Falls.
The photos on this page go as far as Bobcaygeon.
The rest of the trip (including ELVIS in Orillia) is on Page 2.

.....
.....
'Pre trip' cruise on sunny Cooks Bay.

.....
Anchor Girl practices her relaxing technique.

.....

Skipper Bruce has to evict an unwanted
stowaway from his Bride.

..........
Looks like he got the better of the seat cushions.
Good thing we have a raccoon control plan in
effect at the marina, eh?
Oh, we don't? That's why there is always garbage strewn
around the garbage cans!

.....
Time to head off . . .

.....
Just coming off of Simcoe & entering the Talbot River section,
near Gamebridge.

.....
This is the second of five locks one has to go through in rapid succession. These first five take about 2 hours to get through,
as they are all manually operated (the lock staff have to crank
the lock doors closed & open by hand, as well as
operate the valves manually).
Once through here, though, you can move along at a
more steady pace.

.....
A pretty lock approach, with a dam off to the right.

.....
Our first over night stop, at Bolsover.

.....
This picture shows that all the idiots that speed aren't
only on our river.

.....
Relaxing some more, with mmmmmmmunchies.

.....
Here's how this place gets it's name - Sunset Cove.

.....
Here's a boat that we thought might have been good
inspiration for Gary :-)

.....
Such a peaceful spot. Because the weather mostly sucked
in '04, the Waterway was really quiet & we had hardly
any traffic while we traveled.

.....
Heading out of the far end of Canal Lake, towards
Kirkfield Liftlock.

.....
Going up . . .

.....
The canal (also referred to as a 'cut', because these were dug by machine & hand through the rock to join the different lakes/rivers) between Kirkfield & Mitchell Lake.

.....
This is Mitchell Lake. Not much of a lake, really, as it was parts
of the river that expanded when the dams were built
for the Waterway.
Boaters are cautioned to stay within the buoyed channel,
as it is very shallow outside of that, as you will see
in the photo that follows this one.

.....
Here's a shot I took (in the same area) in November, when the locks had been opened to allow the water to drop considerably.
As you can see, the buoys have bottomed out and it's nothing
but mud & tree stumps to either side of the marked channel.

.....
Our next stop was Fenelon Falls.
Anchor Girl is checking out the lock.

.....
Bottom side of Fenelon Falls lock & the
picturesque Fenelon River.

.....
I TOLD you she was at the falls.

....
Getting back to the boat, after a full day of sightseeing.

.....
Here's where we stayed for a couple of days,
Fenelon Falls Marina.
It's the only marina on Cameron Lake.

....
I was able to jump in for a quick swim, as it got
really hot, later that day.

.....
That's right folks, 101.7 degrees fahrenheit!
Can't wait for them days out on the lake!

....
Sunny afternoon, after earlier showers.

.....
A fantastic sunset that evening.
Isn't this beautiful?!

....
Heading out the following morning.

.....
Just coming off Cameron Lake, going into the channel to Fenelon Falls lock.
Kinda looks like the Simcoe / Couchiching Narrows, eh?

....
Inside the big lock.

.....
Southbound on the Fenelon River.

....
Sturgeon Lake is the next body of water
and home to Bobcaygeon - our next, exciting destination.

...
This was a really nice spot. Centre Point Landing was home for a few days.

.....
We borrowed a couple of bikes from the marina for
a ride in to town. . .

....
The only problem was that when we got there, we couldn't go into the stores with them, so we had to park them at the cop shop for safe keeping.

.....
Lock #32 at Bobcaygeon. This was the first lock on the system, built in 1833.

....
This place had neat floating docks. The top deck was made of concrete patio stones, embossed to look like wood. Cool.

....
A deck right on the water. How sweet is that?
I'll be back there.

.....
A foggy evening, so I was forced to entertain my wife with merriment.

....
I guess she wasn't in the mood for my jokes :-(

.....
The next day we had a brief, but fairly violent shower.

....
Right when Paul B. & Marie showed up!
I ran over to help them dock & the three of us got soaked!
Of coarse, right after they were tied up, the sun came out.

.....
The Hold The Dream crew had been heading back homeward
& we met up with them here!

....
The sun behind the clearing clouds.

.....
You scream, I scream, we all scream for . . .

....
And we're off to the next  destination.
Thanks for the send off, Paul !
